Hello all,
I just had a few questions about hunting black bear, I would like to plan a hunt this spring but it's my first time.
First of all I have a .308 I use for hunting deer/moose and was wondering what sort of bullets I should be using.
But my main problem is that I know where all the bears are in the fall because I see loads of bear sign in some old apple orchards on my family farm but I have never gone looking for bear sign in the spring. Is it safe to assume they may be in the same area in the spring as well?
And the last thing, which is more of a concern than a question... how dangerous is it to be leaving a baited stand just after dark, should I have a hunting buddy with me at all times?

Thanks for the help guys!

Hello. I'd recommend using heavy bullets. Your .308 with 165 or more recommended 180 grain bullets will do just fine.

I have found an interesting website: http://www.blackbearhuntinginfo.com/black-bear-hunting-tips/ where they very well affirm that you will find black bears near food sources so I believe that in your case, you will find bears near the old apple orchards if you don't find them there, think about some areas where they have food sources and surely you will find some black bears there.

Regarding your last question/concern, I have to completely agree with razvanjr, you shouldn't leave the stand alone during the night. The best thing to do is to take a hunting buddy along with you.

Hope this helps. Have a good day!

Hello mate. I don't know about the first question, but regarding your concern, I advise you not to leave the stand alone, take at least one more hunting buddy with you especially if you are hunting after dark.
