Personally, I run twice a week to keep my cardio up. I do a series of leg exercises that include squats, another one for calves, I think its called a calf raise but I'm not entirely sure. One where you sit on a bench and lift your legs with weight on your ankles, some kind of a curl. There is also a really good one where you step backwards off a small step and go into a lunge, great for your balance. I do those weight lifts only once a week.
Then I also climb on a stair stepper with a lot of resistance twice a week and I also do crunches and the opposite of a crunch for the lower back, plus some upper body so I can shoot my bow well. It pays dividends as I can out hike all my friends, and I am small in stature. I also do a lot of hiking in the summer though. That is good exercise that you cant replicate in the gym.
