I am looking to get a new rifle. What would be my best option for hunting black bear and boar? The rounds I am looking at are 300 Win. Mag., 338 Win. Mag, 444 Marlin, 450 Marlin or a 45/70 Gov't. I do prefer a lever action but I am also looking at the BARs. Any help would be useful.

For all-around use on black bears, I like heavy calibers & heavy bullets, but I personally want a little bit more range. My preferences are medium-velocity .35 calibers. The nearly obsolete .358 Win. in a lever-action Winchester 88, Browning BLR or Savage 99 is good; when zeroed correctly, it will do just fine from the muzzle out to 250 yards or so.
From your list I would recommend the Winchester ( 300 or 338 ) models.
